What makes the project unique?
“The passion for design together with the aspiration for excellence are the essence of what makes this project unique. The ambition to do something new, surpassing. From there everything is born. There is a synergy of values with our clients, who are passionate about design like us, and they called us to do something unique on a beautiful piece of land facing the river and La Rambla.
The Project itself seeks to create spaces of perfect dimensions, of perfect quality of light and visuals, and perfect execution, so that everything fits and clicks for the comfort of the residences. The small central garden will be a very distinctive and particular exterior-interior space, magical, following the sun and capturing light and nature at the heart of the volume and the residences.”
What does it mean for F+P to start its first project in Uruguay?
“This is the first work of F+P in Uruguay, it is always the one that opens the way, the seed that later grows into new projects and new experiences. It is the opportunity to collaborate and learn from colleagues, form new teams, invent new things for a place, a landscape and a culture with its specific characteristics. We are very excited with this project in Montevideo and excited to build a work that will remain as a benchmark for the architecture of the city.”

What does it mean for Ponce de León Arquitectos to do a project in Uruguay together with Foster + Partners?
“Our studio is used to carrying out projects in different countries in association with other studios, and in this particular case, working together with Foster + Partners only motivates us to take on a great new challenge, both professionally and personally.
F+P has been a source of inspiration for many generations of architects, so it is a great honor for us to be able to carry out this design together with them.
Great Britain has a long history of bilateral engagement with our nation, going back many years. The experience of working with a studio of the stature of F+P only confirms the mutual interest in achieving an excellent product such as The Edge.
Betalba Capital has made a great commitment to develop a unique product at the Rambla de Carrasco, committed to technical innovation, environmental awareness and excellent design.”
What makes this project different from other options on the market?
“We have been working together with F+P for a long time, seeking to generate a different product that respects the value of the existing urban context, in such a way that this new construction can be integrated into the montevidean Rambla, with a contemporary language, increasing in somewhat the density of the two houses that were located in the place, using constructive techniques belonging to our environment, and contributing to the preservation of the environment.
The composition of the volume of the building was conceived to comply with the strict municipal regulations for the area, always thinking that the building proposal will allow nature to surround the building creation, framing the views of the landscape and the sea, always seeking the best sunlight. for all units.
In addition to unique coatings and finishes, innovative materials developed for this particular project will be used.
The play of light and shadow, created by combining few materials and finishes, has been designed with the intention of evoking a unique product, proposing flexible units that can be adapted to the particular needs of each owner.
The unifying elements of the building are natural light, water and greenery, which will be introduced into the building in several areas, generating a single lobby, which will go through the different sectors of the building in the certainty that the design will achieve a successful result. unique for our medium.”

“We wanted to do something different, that marks a milestone not only in the city but also in the way of conceiving a project. It was important to us from the beginning, to generate something of transcendent value, surround ourselves with a team of excellence and work together, with the highest possible standards.
The idea arose about five years ago, we invited Carlos and added another international study rounded off the concept of solidity that we wanted for the project. From minute one, after meetings at the studio’s London headquarters, the Foster & Partners team echoed our vision and one of its creative teams dedicated itself to accompanying us in this challenge, which will have Juan Frigerio as a local partner.
The building already has municipal permits and is in the project improvement stage, for which the synergy between both professional studios guarantees not only spatial quality but also cutting-edge finishes, facilities that guarantee sustainability and will become definitely a high added value to the city in terms of signature architecture.”
